Rosacea

What is Rosacea?

Rosacea (rose-AY-sha) often begins with a tendency to blush or flush more easily than other people.

The redness can slowly spread beyond the nose and cheeks to the forehead and chin. Even the ears, and chest, can be red all the time.

Rosacea can cause more than redness. Four subtypes are recognized.

 1. Erythematotelangiectatic rosacea

Redness, flushing, and visible blood vessels

 2. Papulopustular rosacea

Redness, swelling, and acne-like breakouts

 3. Phymatous rosacea

Skin thickens and becomes a bumpy especially involving the nose

 4. Ocular rosacea

Eyes become red and irritated and the eyelids can be swollen.

There is no cure for rosacea but there are things to reduce the redness and help your skin feel better.
